Its function is to control coolant circulation, closing when cold to raise temperature quickly and opening when hot to maintain normal temperature. Fits mainly VW Jetta 2V and Santana, also suitable for older Passat. After installation, the temperature gauge stays in the middle, heater comes on quickly, and there is no overheating or failure to raise temperature. If water temperature fluctuates, heater is not warm, or at high speed the temperature is low, the thermostat is likely aging and should be replaced.
