Displacement & Performance
Displacement refers to the total volume swept by all pistons from top dead center to bottom dead center, typically measured in liters (L) or cc. It is one of the most basic engine parameters, directly affecting power output and fuel consumption.
However, displacement alone does not determine performance. A 2.0L turbo engine typically produces 200-400 hp, while naturally aspirated engines output around 150-180 hp. Race-tuned engines can exceed 600 hp.
What is Bore × Stroke?
Displacement = π × (Bore/2)² × Stroke × Cylinders
The bore-to-stroke ratio determines engine characteristics: a larger bore favors high-RPM performance, while a longer stroke favors low-end torque.
